Here is Sara, a three year old black Standard Poodle, that belongs to one of my grooming clients. The reference photo for this graphite drawing was not from a good angle. It seemed to make her muzzle look rather banana like and her eyes wer very squinty as she seemed to be looking over her shoulder. Sooo, I took some creative liberties with the work. I was able to make her muzzle look normal…she is a fine boned girl…very petit for a Standard but with in the conformation size specs. I also opened her eyes up because the half shut look was not attractive. It is harder to work from an awkwardly taken shot but the curly ears and topknot are what appealed to me. I look forward to drawing more poodles…love those curls and want more practice.
